"Empower Your Aluminium Machining" is the theme of this year's Mapal exhibit at AMB in Stuttgart, where the tool manufacturer will showcase on 390 square meters. The focus is on expertise in aluminum machining, cutting-edge machining solutions for key industries, and the innovations for 2025.

With our decades of experience in the design, production, and application of tools for aluminum machining, we at Mapal are the leading technology partner for the machining of aluminum components.

Jacek Kruszynski, Chief Technology Officer of the Mapal Group

"To offer our customers the optimal machining processes for them, we not only provide our product and application portfolio, but also share our market, material, and engineering expertise in a cooperative partnership. Only by considering all influencing factors can the full potential of a machining process be realized. Mapal has stood for this for many years, and we demonstrate it at AMB with many impressive examples."

In addition, the Mapal booth focuses on innovative machining solutions for key industries such as automotive, including solutions for electrically driven vehicles, aerospace, fluid technology, as well as tool and mold making.

New interface for fastest tool changes

Mapal introduces a new, patent-pending bayonet-like interface for interchangeable head milling systems at AMB 2024. Users benefit from easy handling, rigid connection, and optimal cooling.

The operating principle is simple: Insert the exchangeable head, twist it 90 degrees, and lock it into place. This is much easier than the previous system that used threads. Thanks to the large cylindrical contact surface, the bayonet system achieves high rigidity and good force distribution. Mapal also presents a new holder design with coolant channel bores for increased cooling volume. The coolant is directed straight to the cutting edges, which enhances the tool life and the machining quality. The higher rigidity of the milling heads, due to the omission of a coolant channel bore, improves dimensional and positional tolerances, process stability, and tool life.

Mapal introduces two initial applications at AMB: a five-edged milling head for constant velocity joints and a form cutter for drive shafts.

Spotfacing tool with microstop cage for aircraft assembly

To protect aircraft from lightning strikes, all parts must be electrically conductive and connected. During assembly, paint is removed in the area around holes. Mapal has developed a tool for this so-called spotfacing featuring a patented microstop cage that replaces the traditionally used brushes and additionally handles countersinking, chamfering, and deburring.

The new Mapal spotfacing tool, a plug-and-play solution, rotates within a microstop cage and extends only as far as material needs to be removed. With its long service life, one tool can replace several hundred brushes, making it not only particularly reliable in process but also very economical.

During use for reliable deburring, the tool's cutting edges are completely inside the cage, leaving 0.1 millimeters of the burr remaining. The depth stop is also useful for countersinking or chamfering. The optional dust extraction is a valued feature when processing composites.
