New Band Saw Operates with Even Greater Precision than Before

The new programming also improves positioning and cutting accuracy, Kasto adds. Even with the Kastowin Series 107 machines equipped with Procontrol, cut lengths were already particularly consistent within the specified tolerance range. This positive result is now also evident with the new Kastossb. In a series of measurements on a Kastossb FC 2.6 using C45 round stock with a diameter of 90 millimeters (3.54 inches)and a target cut length of 10.00 millimeters(0.3937 inches), the mean value was 10.011 millimeters (0.3941 inches) and the standard deviation was 0.048 millimeters (0.0019 inches). According to Kasto, precisely reproducible cut lengths allow for smaller sawing allowances and save material and time in subsequent machining steps.

Vibration Damping Was also Taken into Account

As is well known, another key factor for high cutting quality and productivity is targeted vibration management. A proven core element of the Kastossb series has therefore remained unchanged. This refers to the upper housing made of mineral cast. It is characterized by high damping capacity and thus effectively reduces vibrations during the sawing process. This is, for example, a decisive advantage when cutting bundles, pipes, and profiles with diameters up to 260 millimeters (approximately 10.2 in). This system also excels when using carbide-tipped saw bands. The latter are now explicitly included in the range of applications. As an option, it is now also possible to use 34-millimeter-wide (1.34 inches) saw bands with the Kastossb.

Kasto also notes that the Kastossb is available as the AC 2.6 for “stand-alone” use or with a roller conveyor, as well as the FC 2.6 with automated material infeed along with feed and discharge systems. The FC variant can be expanded with Kastosort for automated robotic handling and with storage systems. This creates a compact, scalable automation platform for precision sawing that remains affordable even for medium-sized companies. And if needed, the saw can also be integrated into the new, fully automated Kastocenter compact sawing center. The modular concept then combines a tower storage system, robot-assisted feeding and removal, the saw, and downstream processing into a 24/7-capable material flow system that requires relatively little space, as the announcement concludes. The Kastossb will be presented in Hall 8 at the AMB in Stuttgart (Germany).
