Since 1985, the Kastossb automatic band saw has stood for reliable sawing technology, high versatility, robust machine quality, and high performance, according to the company. Four decades of practical experience have now been incorporated into the further development of the sawing system. According to Kasto, this is particularly evident in the saw feed. This is because the designers replaced the previous hydraulic drive with servo motors. The new electromechanical drive consumes power only when actual sawing is taking place, as stated. The advantage is more energy-efficient and quieter production. Automatic feed control is standard equipment. And with Kastorespond, the sawing parameters are now automatically adjusted to the specific application, which optimizes cutting times, as the list of improvements further states.

Right or Left? A New and Flexible Chip Conveyor

There is also a new chip conveyor. It can be mounted on either the right or the left side. The operator can specify the desired discharge direction when placing the order. This allows the unit to integrate even more flexibly into on-site processes. The design, which conveys chips exclusively from above, minimizes the risk of clogging, complies with the latest safety standards, and reduces the amount of coolant required. Depending on the application, ejection heights of 600 or 1,050 millimeters (23.6 or 41.3 inches) are available. For installation and removal, the conveyor will now be equipped with rollers. According to the manufacturer, the new design allows it to be rotated 30 degrees when mounted on the left side, making it easier to pull out. The required clearance space (600-millimeter (23.6-inch) discharge height) is thereby reduced from 3.6 to 2.9 meters (11.8 to 9.5 feet). This allows users of the machine—which, as emphasized, is already very compact—to save even more valuable and limited space in their production facilities.

Smart Software and Less Maintenance

Kasto has also relaunched the Kasto-Procontrol control system, which is now designed to make operation even more efficient, intuitive, and transparent. The dashboard and the Simple Mode feature support day-to-day operations, along with a material library, cutting plan, and “intelligent” cutting optimization—all of which save time and material, as Kasto explains. Diagnostic and analysis tools help isolate malfunctions more quickly and reduce downtime. Split panels and hinged rear doors facilitate access to the band saw and key components. This also helps save space. A new viewing window on the front now provides an unobstructed view of the work area, the roller conveyor, and the material feed.
