From now on, the Mazak portfolio will also include products for the bending sector. The company has announced the expansion of its portfolio to include high-precision press brakes from the new XB series. This series is part of the Optonics “Powered by Mazak” lineup. According to the manufacturer, the series combines robust machine construction, advanced control technology, and flexible configuration options, thereby offering reliable productivity and long-term cost-effectiveness for a wide range of sheet metal processing applications.

Energy-Efficient Drive System

The patented hybrid drive system uses independent electric servo motors and pumps for the Y1 and Y2 axes, ensuring high precision and maximum energy efficiency. The on-demand power delivery enables high ram acceleration and bending speeds of up to 15 mm/s. At the same time, it reduces energy losses during idle operation, noise emissions, and maintenance requirements. Compared to a conventional hydraulic press brake, the hybrid system can reduce energy consumption by up to 60 percent and shorten cycle times by up to 25 percent.

Many Options for a Variety of Needs

The initial product line includes the XB 130-32, XB 170-32, and XB 250-41, all available in A and B configurations, with press capacities ranging from 130 to 250 metric tons and maximum bending lengths from 3,200 to 4,100 millimeters (126 to 161 inches). The highly rigid construction, precise linear position measurement systems, and CNC-controlled crowning are designed to ensure consistently high bending accuracy in both small-batch and mass production.

Depending on requirements, tool clamping systems conforming to Euro or WILA standards are available with manual or hydraulic crowning, as well as high-performance, servo-driven multi-axis backgages for maximum flexibility. Standard and advanced measurement options enable precise positioning and high repeatability of sheet metal, even when machining complex components.

Controls for Greater Efficiency

The Optonics Smooth-Bend NC control’s dual 21-inch touchscreen interface provides a clear, at-a-glance view of bending data, program information, and graphics. Together with the Mazak Smart System Bend and Mazak Smart System Design, these features are designed to enable a more efficient digital workflow—from part design and development through laser cutting to bending. Offline programming is designed to reduce unproductive downtime, while grouping parts with identical tool settings increases throughput even with a wide variety of part designs and small batch sizes.

Everything You Need for Sheet Metal Fabrication—All From One Source

As part of the “Powered by Mazak” product family, Optonics customers gain access to Mazak’s Europe-wide service and support organization, in-depth application engineering, and comprehensive spare parts service, including the European spare parts center in Belgium.

Ian White, General Business Manager at Mazak Optonics Europe, commented: “The Optonics XB Series offers manufacturing companies an attractive new solution for bending. At the same time, our customers can source laser cutting technology, press brakes, and software solutions from a single provider—Mazak—a full-service provider for sheet metal processing.”
