Early Warning System Lapp Collects Wear Data for Power Lines

Predictive maintenance often still excludes power and control cables. To avoid unplanned plant downtime, Lapp is now developing a system that directly records the wear of power-carrying cables during operation.
Dynamically moving cables are among the most stressed components of automated systems. In robotics systems, energy chains, or conveyor systems, bending, tensile, and torsional forces affect the connection technology over the years. These mechanical loads gradually lead to material wear. When a defect eventually occurs, not only individual machines often come to a halt, but entire production processes are disrupted.
