Autonomous Mobile Manipulation Robots (AMMRs)—a combination of a mobile robot and a cobot—are all the rage. Read on to learn about the challenges involved in their design and why AMMRs often remain superior to humanoid robots in manufacturing.
Where human employees used to push carts through factory halls and, for example, gather all the necessary items for an order in the warehouse, autonomous mobile robots are now increasingly delivering these parts to the respective assembly workstations. If they also carry a collaborative robotic arm that picks up the required items from shelves or bins, they are referred to as Autonomous Mobile Manipulation Robots, or AMMRs for short.
