Beijing Sees Humanoids as Future Systems

China's government has defined the development of so-called embodied artificial intelligence as a future industry. As a result, many players and universities are heavily investing in research and the construction of humanoid robots. Some are even planning to go public to raise money from investors. Recently, the robot manufacturer Unitree made headlines with its rapid stock market debut in Shanghai, where the stock surged by 629 percent on its debut. Other hardware and AI companies in areas such as semiconductors and robotics, which Beijing specifically supports, have also previously had strong stock market launches. China aims to reduce technological dependence on foreign countries and create new engines for growth. The United States, in particular, is also a leader in the development of humanoid robots. The trend has now become interesting for companies from other industries, which are starting to enter the robotics field. Some experts already speculate that this could eventually lead to oversupply and price wars. A similar development had already occurred in China's electric car industry.
