The Start-up Hermes Award Goes to Switzerland: BTRY ...

As far as the Start-up Award at the Hannover Messe is concerned, it was won by a young company from Switzerland called BTRY. The founders impressed the independent jury with the ultra-thin and completely flexible solid-state batteries they developed, as we learned. These combine fast charging, high temperature resistance and a high level of safety in one battery system. They therefore outperform conventional lithium-ion cells. By transferring production technology from the semiconductor industry to battery manufacturing, BTRY is making decisive progress towards smaller, safer and longer-lasting energy storage systems that can power the next generation of smart devices. These include wireless IoT sensors, wearables and medical technology applications. The production process does not use any toxic solvents and is characterized by low material consumption. The batteries can be used at temperatures of up to 150 °C and can be fully charged and discharged within one minute from a thickness of just 0.1 millimetres, as the company emphasizes.
