China's Exports Are Also Increasing Despite the War

And China sold significantly more goods to the world in May, according to other sources—once again including exports to Germany. Exports increased by 19.4 percent in dollar terms compared to the same month last year despite heightened uncertainty due to the Iran war, according to the Chinese customs administration. Imports rose by 27.4 percent. The trade surplus amounted to 105.4 billion dollars (around 91 billion euros). The increases exceeded the already strong figures of the previous month, it was further reported. Foreign demand remains an important economic support for China in times of weak domestic demand, a real estate crisis, and overcapacities. Exports to the EU rose by 7.6 percent, while imports from the EU decreased by 1.3 percent. In trade with Germany, China's exports increased by 9.3 percent, while imports from Germany fell by 6.2 percent.

China Exports Over 35 Percent More to the USA

Exports from China are supported by the export of electronics and technology products, which are needed, for example, for the expansion of data centers, as reported. Electric cars, lithium-ion batteries, and photovoltaic products are also among China's key export hits, it is further stated. At the same time, it is speculated that companies abroad may have brought orders forward to guard against potential supply chain disruptions. Exports to the USA saw particularly strong growth. According to customs administration data, these increased by 35.4 percent in May. Imports from the USA rose by 20.4 percent. Economist Lynn Song from the Dutch bank ING pointed out, however, that the steep rise in exports to the USA is mainly due to a so-called base effect, as the customs dispute peaked in the comparison month of May 2025.
