Europe risks falling behind in the global race for the software-defined vehicle. While Chinese manufacturers are bringing new vehicle platforms to market in record time, European OEMs and suppliers continue to develop the same basic functions in parallel—with the familiar consequences for costs and time-to-market. The ZVEI, the German Electrical and Digital Industries Association, is sounding the alarm—and is also presenting a specific counterproposal: In a white paper developed jointly with 15 companies, the association outlines a new E/E vehicle architecture as a cross-domain reference concept.
