Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly becoming a robust tool for real-world engineering processes in design and manufacturing. However, while generic language models help with everyday tasks, their understanding is not sufficient for engineering, as Alexander Stern, Director of Strategic Business Development for PDMS at Autodesk, explains. “AI must understand geometry, be able to interpret an engineer’s intent, and take into account product data, manufacturing processes, operating environments, and lifecycle requirements.” Autodesk therefore relies on Project Intelligence: connected project context, specialized engineering data, and domain expertise—so that AI can better support specific work steps while remaining transparent and verifiable at all times.
