"Time is running out: while other regions have long since scaled up AI in factories, vehicles and robotics, Europe is still discussing responsibilities and paperwork obligations. The Commission, Parliament and Council must now reach an agreement in the negotiations to ease the burden on industrial AI—no double regulation, practical deadlines, uniform implementation across the EU.

We are currently experiencing a fundamental misunderstanding: industrial AI is too often treated as if it were a generic consumer application. This leads to double regulation, legal uncertainty and slowdowns in investment—precisely where Europe needs speed and scale.

For AI in physical systems—from manufacturing robotics to autonomous logistics solutions—clear guidelines are needed instead of a second testing regime: clear demarcation from product law, no parallel documentation and conformity obligations, uniform interpretation across the EU. This is the only way Europe can create trust in safety—and at the same time catch up in the global AI race.

AI in machinery and robotics must be clearly assigned to the existing EU product and safety legislation—without a parallel second AI Act testing and documentation regime. Applications regulated in the Machinery Directive must therefore be removed from the AI Act. The extension of the transitional periods is a central element of the negotiations and must not become a means of political pressure due to the tight timelines."
