SKF: New spindle bearings for the highest demands

Faster, more durable, and more energy-efficient: Modern machine tools are optimized towards this triad. As a result, the requirements for tool machine spindles are increasing, especially for their bearings, which enable high rotational speeds without loss of precision. SKF has developed a new generation of high-precision bearings for these requirements.

These new bearings are available in the performance classes Performance, Ultrafast, and Extreme, with Performance and Ultrafast serving as top series solutions that meet the most common requirements in terms of speed, load, and precision. The Extreme bearing platform represents a completely new class of performance, developed by SKF bearing specialists who can also customize it in close coordination with customers to meet specific application needs.

According to the company, three features make the new Extreme bearings stand out from the market environment:

  • Bearing rings made from a new, high-load material

  • the use of the SKF Generalized Bearing Life Model (GBLM) for a more realistic estimation of service life,

  • and the customer-specific consulting service from SKF.

For instance, a new hybrid high-precision bearing has been developed that is suitable for high speeds and simultaneously capable of handling high loads, significantly enhancing the performance and energy efficiency of existing spindles.
