Aumovio, Continental’s former automotive division, secured production orders for its new satellite cameras in the third quarter of this year. According to the supplier, the orders from two Asian automakers total more than 500 million euros. Production is scheduled to begin at both automakers in the fourth quarter of 2027.

In the third quarter of 2026, automotive supplier Aumovio secured more than half a billion euros ($570 million)  in production orders for its new satellite cameras from a Chinese and an Asian automaker. The order from China, in particular, is cause for celebration, as it marks the first time Aumovio’s technology will be used by a Chinese automaker. “The orders in Asia for our latest generation of satellite cameras confirm our strategy,” says Ismail Dagli, member of the Executive Board and Head of the Autonomous and Commercial Mobility business unit at Aumovio. “We support Asian automakers in their international expansion by combining local development with our global production network. In this way, we support our customers in the markets where they need us. […]”

Optical Stability Meets Compatibility with Software Platforms for AD

At the Chinese automaker, the modular camera platform supports assisted and automated driving even under extreme conditions. Software-based image optimization improves image quality in low light, thereby enabling the use of driver-assistance features at night. According to the company, the satellite cameras are designed to combine long-term optical stability with compatibility with common software platforms for automated driving. The robust optical design ensures consistently high image quality throughout the vehicle’s entire service life—even in the face of temperature fluctuations and aging effects. Flexible interfaces facilitate integration into various architectures for automated driving.

As automated driving features are introduced in more and more markets, the demands on their reliability in everyday use are increasing. The satellite cameras are designed for reliable operation at temperatures as low as –40 degrees Celsius (−40 °F), as well as in snow, ice, and low-light conditions. They feature image sensors with resolutions ranging from 1.3 to 8 megapixels, various field-of-view angles, and high HDR. In addition, the cameras can be configured with de-icing and anti-fog functions, as well as image optimization, to meet the automated driving requirements of different vehicle models.

"Local-for-Local" Strategy

In addition to reliability under extreme environmental conditions, local development and production capabilities are playing an increasingly important role in mass production. Stricter regulations worldwide and rising customer expectations are placing greater demands on automakers and their technology partners.

Thanks to its local development and production capabilities in various markets, the company can tailor its camera solutions to individual customer requirements and support vehicle manufacturers from development through to mass production. In this way, the supplier helps ensure that assisted and automated driving functions can be deployed worldwide across an ever-wider range of real-world traffic and environmental conditions.
