Increased market opportunities through wear layer on the screw

For high demands of this kind, Balnit Croma Plus is therefore worthwhile. The layer is twice as hard as hard chrome, among other things. It would not allow microcracks and thus backwall corrosion and maintain its layer thickness to the micrometer. There are also advantages in the comparison of treatment processes. Thus, nitriding, which is usually necessary for surface hardening before chrome plating, forms a hard-to-remove oxide layer that reduces chrome adhesion. On the other hand, Oerlikon Balzers combines hardening of the edge zone and PVD coating, without any oxide layer formation, in one coating process. This also saves the delivery to and from the user. These advantages have now also convinced a major Chinese customer, who has ordered some quite long extruder screws. It is said that these will not be the last ones to be coated in this way.
