The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA has launched a cross-industry initiative called Project RoX. According to a press release, leading players from industry and science are working on innovative robotics solutions for practical fields such as logistics, production and intralogistics as part of the project. The aim is to make complex automation technologies scalable and sustainable through the use of advanced components, artificial intelligence and a digital ecosystem.

Areas of application include flexible gripping solutions, AI-supported bin picking and the use of collaborative robots (cobots) for welding processes. Simulations and AI-supported tools such as CARA or the Robo-Dashcam are intended to shorten set-up times and optimize safety in human-robot interactions.

"RoX sets new standards for AI-based robotics and gives Germany an innovation boost in a highly competitive international market," says project coordinator Richard Bormann from Fraunhofer IPA. With a practical focus and scalable digital solutions, RoX aims to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of the participating industries in the long term.
