Raw Materials Study: Lithium for Electric Vehicles Could Become Scarce
Lithium scarcity could slow down electromobility. In Europe, the demand in 2030 is expected to be double that of supply. The USA and China are also competing for the resource.
According to a study, the growing demand for electric cars could lead to a global shortage of lithium in a few years' time. Despite ambitious expansion plans for the extraction of the important battery raw material, the supply will not be sufficient to meet the growing demand by 2030 - neither in Europe, the USA nor China. This is the conclusion of a study by East China Normal University in Shanghai and Sweden's Lund University.
