How can modern quality and process requirements be implemented in an existing machinery park with investment security? A special example from Siemens Energy Erfurt shows how a modular design and intelligent digitization can make even 50-year-old machines future-proof.

For low-speed pre-balancing of generator components, Siemens Energy uses a machine from Schenck Rotec, an H6 from 1972. The then-new CAB690 measuring system was installed in 1993. The fully enclosed machine is used primarily for balancing exciter rotors as well as fans on exciters and slip rings. It features a cardan shaft drive with a 45 kW  (approx. 60 hp) electric motor and rotates up to approximately 2,000 rpm.
