As early as the end of 2023, Michelin had announced that it would close tire factories in Germany and relocate production abroad. The IG BCE union had unsuccessfully tried to convince the group to keep the plants and some of the jobs. In March, the certainty came: The Karlsruhe and Trier sites will be closed, and the truck tire production in Homburg will be stopped. More than 1,500 jobs are set to be cut by 2025.

The solar company Meyer Burger announced in March that it will close its site in Freiberg, Saxony. The reasons cited included significant losses from the previous year and strong competition from cheap solar modules from China. The site closure affected a total of 500 employees of the company. According to the Swiss company, around 100 affected people were offered a contract in other companies of the group.
