In the dynamic world of retail, sales displays are the silent sellers at the point of sale. However, before these attractive product carriers can fulfill their purpose, they must arrive at their destination—the respective retail store—undamaged and on time. For the Offergeld Logistics Group, a Europe-wide company specializing in storage, transport, and distribution, this presented a logistical challenge.

As a service provider for so-called co-packing—the assembly and stocking of sales displays—Offergeld was looking for a solution for the secure transport of asymmetrical displays and the gentle securing of delicate cartons without causing damage. The answer was found in a strategic partnership with Mosca GmbH, the multiple award-winning specialist in strapping machines.

Promotional Displays And the Strategic Significance of Co-Packing

The Offergeld Logistics Group plays a central role in the supply chain of many consumer goods manufacturers. Co-packing is an essential value-added service: Offergeld takes on the tasks of assembling, filling, and preparing the displays for shipment. Through this just-in-time preparation and direct delivery to thousands of retail stores, the manufacturer can focus on its core competencies (innovation, product development, marketing, and sales). In return, Offergeld provides the necessary expertise and specialized infrastructure to efficiently manage complex packaging requirements.

Logistical Challenge: Secure Firmly But As Gently As Possible

Offergeld's task was the secure and efficient fixation of the fully stocked displays on pallets. A specific challenge arose: the packaging is very delicate. The displays are protected by sensitive cover cartons. With the high tension pressure of conventional strapping methods, there is a significant risk that the carton could tear, deform, or be crushed—causing damage already within the logistics chain. Johannes Wieder, Sales Manager Logistics at Mosca, explains: "The sales displays are only partially filled on one side at the top, so the cover carton cannot support itself. This creates the risk of the sensitive carton being damaged by the pressure during strapping. So, we needed a solution that fixes the display securely but as gently as possible."

The Solution: Highly Customized Strapping Technology from Mosca

The engineers of the strapping specialist Mosca developed a tailored end-of-line solution precisely customized to the highly sensitive requirements of display logistics. At the core were two perfectly coordinated machine types that were integrated into Offergeld's existing conveyor system:

  • The MS-6 KR-ZV: The Art of Gentle Fixation The MS-6 KR-ZV is the specialist for horizontal strapping of sensitive sales displays. Its main innovation is a highly advanced strapping unit with precise, electronically controlled strap tension. This "super-soft strapping" applies the strapping band very gently, preventing the sensitive cartons from yielding or tearing under pressure. Despite this "soft strapping," sufficient fixation for safe transport is ensured.
  • The KZV-121: Stability for the Entire Pallet The KZV-121 secures the entire load unit vertically. The machine straps the pallets with high tension. The key to safety lies in its automatic edge protection dispenser. Before the strap is tensioned, the KZV-121 applies edge protection elements made of cardboard. These protective angles optimally distribute the tension pressure across the edges, prevent the strap from cutting in, and significantly contribute to the shape stability and transport safety of the entire load.

To maximize efficiency, the entire process was optimized to a very fast cycle of just approximately twelve seconds. Additionally, both machine types at Offergeld were equipped with the proven Mosca double dispenser, significantly increasing the availability of the entire system.

The Impressive Results: A Quantum Leap in Efficiency And Safety

The implementation of Mosca strapping systems led to significant process optimization at Offergeld and increased the cost-effectiveness of the logistics chain. Johannes Wieder emphasizes, "This project is a compelling example of how a minimum of packaging material—namely the strapping band and edge protection—can achieve a maximum of transport safety." Gregor Thometzki, Head of Technology at Offergeld, is also very satisfied. He highlights the functional advantages: "The Mosca machines are significantly more compact and strap considerably faster than our previous solutions. We were able to integrate the systems seamlessly and fully automatically into our existing conveyor technology." The increased level of automation enabled Offergeld to reassign employees, previously occupied with time-consuming manual strapping, to more qualified tasks in other areas.

The impressive results of the collaboration underscore the fundamental importance of a close, trust-based partnership and the application of solid technical expertise. Mosca has demonstrated the ability to develop tailored, highly individualized end-of-line solutions that pave the way for a revolutionized display logistics process in the highly sensitive retail industry. What are promotional displays?

Promotional displays (POS displays) are specially designed presentation tools used in retail to specifically attract attention and promote impulse purchases. They come in various shapes and sizes, ranging from floor stands to complex shelving systems, and are often made from lightweight, flexible materials like cardboard or corrugated board.
