More than 700 electric vehicle drivers in Sweden, the Netherlands, and Germany tested "Seamless Charging" in the spring. The cloud-based service automates the charging process, authentication, and payment at AC and DC charging stations. After a one-time registration, the charging process starts and ends automatically when the vehicle is connected.

"Electromobility must work as simply as possible in everyday life. Those who charge should not have to deal with different cards, apps, or authentication steps every time," explains Fabian Hagmann, Vice President E-Mobility at Vattenfall. With Seamless Charging, the company is testing the simplest possible process—"secure, automatic, and close to what customers really need in daily use," says Hagmann.

This is How Seamless Charging Works

Seamless Charging will be available starting in autumn 2026. To use it, users need a "My InCharge" account with Vattenfall. There, they can add their own vehicle and then confirm authorization for secure data transfer via the login page of the respective vehicle manufacturer. The system automatically recognizes the connected vehicle, starts the charging process, and ends it once charging is complete.

"Our experience in connecting vehicles, data, and partners in the ecosystem shows: The best technology removes complexity instead of adding new ones," comments Mateo Sotomayor, Vice President EV Experience at Wirelesscar. Seamless Charging is designed to eliminate steps in the charging process.

The service is set to be available in fall/winter at all Incharge charging stations. According to Vattenfall, Incharge currently operates more than 100,000 charging stations in Europe. "Seamless Charging" is provided by the company Wirelesscar.
