Volvo Trucks is presenting a new electrically powered long-haul truck with a longer range. According to the manufacturer, the FH Aero Electric can travel up to 700 kilometers (approx. 435 mi) on one battery charge. According to the company, this is made possible by a new electric axle that combines two electric motors and a transmission. This leaves "space in the frame for significantly more battery capacity", Volvo Trucks describes in a press release.

The model's electric motors have a combined output of up to 460 kilowatts. Volvo Trucks puts the total towing weight at 48 tons and the payload at up to 28 tons. An electric power take-off makes it possible to operate cooling units directly - without a separate diesel generator. The FH Aero Electric can be charged using the MCS standard. In around 50 minutes, the charge level should rise from 20 to 80 percent, with 700 kilowatts of charging power.

New for the FH, FM and FMX Electric Series

The truck manufacturer has also presented the next generation of the heavy-duty FH, FM and FMX Electric series, primarily for road construction, regional distribution transport, urban logistics, utilities and waste management. The models can travel up to 470 kilometers (approx. 290 mi) on a single charge. It should take around 65 minutes to charge from 20 to 80 percent, with 350 kilowatts of charging power. The truck drives have an output of up to 540 kilowatts. The models can tow up to 65 tons (approx. 72 short tons), with a payload of up to 23.8 tons (approx. 26 short tons) for a 4x2 tractor unit.

Operate Superstructures Without Extra Drives

According to Volvo Trucks, vehicle superstructures such as a concrete mixer, a hook lift or a refuse body can be operated without additional drive motors or attachments. The technical background to this is a new, independent transmission power take-off, which enables use while driving. All new trucks are equipped with a transmission optimized for electric drive. The new FH, FM and FMX Electric are equipped with a transmission with eight gears, while the new FH Aero Electric has six gears in the electric axle. The new trucks will be available to order from summer 2026.
