Elon Musk’s automaker and space company are said to have formed special committees at the request of shareholders to review the merger, Musk said during a video conference on SpaceX’s quarterly earnings. However, he is not part of these committees due to potential conflicts of interest. Musk is a major shareholder in both companies, and these shares form the basis of his fortune (estimated at about 820 billion euros / approximately US$926.6 billion), making him the richest person in the world today. There has long been speculation about a merger between Tesla and SpaceX. So far, however, Musk has only commented on the matter evasively. Now he has hinted that he personally thinks such a merger is a good idea. However, it is an exaggeration to say that it will definitely happen, Musk added. Among other things, he pointed out that such a move would require the approval of at least 50 percent of all Tesla shareholders.
