Experts at BMW Research worked for three years on the “Future Sustainable Car Materials” project. The results are ready for series production—though not immediately.

It is not often that car manufacturers pull back the curtain on their research departments and offer insights into what may not arrive in the end product for five, ten years or even longer. BMW has now done so. At the beginning of May, experts from BMW Research presented the results of the "Future Sustainable Car Materials" project, or FSCM for short. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection is funding this consortium project, in which 16 partners from industry and science have joined forces. BMW invested around 32 million euros.
