Space-Saving Container Concept in Corporate Design

At the same time, valuable space in the new production hall should not be blocked by supply technology. Another criterion was the required cleanliness. In a recycling plant, dust inevitably arises from shredding and moving materials. "We wanted to avoid having the cooling technology located inside the hall, where it could become dirty over time," Langenhof explains. An outdoor system minimizes maintenance efforts and ensures the longevity of the equipment itself. The response from the Technotrans engineers in Meinerzhagen was a cooling system tailored exactly to these requirements, designed as a container concept. The entire technology— including pumps, tanks, refrigeration units, and control cabinets—is integrated into a weatherproof container combination and placed outdoors. As a visual detail, it is worth mentioning that the technical container is painted in the customer's specific shade of blue. Even after more than two years of operation, the interior of the container still looks like new.

A Closed Cooling System Offers Several Advantages

Since then, the system has maintained production at a constant supply temperature of 15°C (59°F). A piping system delivers the cooling water to the consumers—namely the extruders and the granulate cooling. Rymoplast placed great emphasis on redundancy. This means dual pump groups with frequency converters, which not only ensure operation in the event of a pump failure but also continuously adjust the motor's flow rate to the actual demand. Thanks to this precise speed control, the pumps always operate at their energy-optimized level. This significantly reduces power consumption in partial-load operation compared to rigid systems. Technologically, this system represents a deliberate step away from open cooling tower systems, which are still widely used in the industry but are prone to dirt and Legionella contamination. With the closed Technotrans system, such issues are no longer a concern. However, the type of cooling is different...

Adiabatic Auxiliary Cooling Increases Efficiency

Since a closed circuit must be cooled differently from an evaporative cooling tower due to physical principles, energy efficiency was the central focus of the design. In this regard, Technotrans was able to fully leverage its expertise: the system combines highly efficient refrigeration units with a powerful free cooling unit, which is also space-savingly installed directly on the roof of the container. To further maximize efficiency even at higher outside temperatures, the system is additionally equipped with adiabatic cooling. A spray water distribution system lowers the temperature of the intake air through evaporative cooling, significantly increasing the overall efficiency of the cooling system.
