Mobileye plans to not only develop autonomous driving technologies but also operate its own autonomous ride-hailing service. The company aims to launch this service in the US as early as next year.

Mobileye is expanding its corporate strategy by combining its expertise in autonomous driving with fleet operations, passenger services, and mobility management into a vertically integrated offering. This extends the company’s existing business model as a supplier of autonomous vehicle technology for automakers and mobility providers with a new operational business unit. However, the Intel subsidiary will continue to support customer projects for implementing autonomous mobility.

Mobileye Drive Meets Moovit

Currently, Mobileye Drive is being integrated as a standalone system for autonomous driving into partner programs. With the planned initiative, Mobileye is expanding its role along the entire robotaxi value chain. For this purpose, Mobileye Drive is combined with the mobility platform of its subsidiary Moovit to leverage user applications, multimodal trip planning, autonomous vehicle control (AV Mission Control), fleet management technologies, and connectivity to teleoperations infrastructures.

Fleet of Around 100 Vehicles Planned

The company's business unit that offers the AD system Mobileye Drive to automakers, mobility operators, and other customers remains unaffected. Instead, the direct operation of robotaxis is seen as a complementary path to market entry. Mobileye initially plans to deploy a fleet of around 100 vehicles in a major metropolitan area in the U.S. starting in 2027. The launch will take place gradually over the year to validate the operational model under fully driverless conditions. Following the successful operation of this first fleet, the business is set to scale significantly—with approximately 17,000 vehicles to be added within the subsequent five years.

To implement the robotaxi business, partnerships are planned with manufacturers of AV-capable vehicle platforms, fleet operators, integration partners, and other key technology providers. This ecosystem is intended to help manage and operate autonomous ride services within a single business division.

Expand mobility services

Expanding the business model helps Moovit to strengthen its strategy and assist people in finding, planning, and using mobility options more easily in complex urban environments. The provider's mobility platform supports more than 1.7 billion users in over 3,500 cities, 112 countries, and 45 languages.
