In the U.S., Hardly Anything Will Change in 2026

Meanwhile, economists continue to project 2.3 percent growth for the U.S. economy in 2026. The United States is also expected to grow at a similar rate in 2027, which would be slightly higher than previously anticipated. According to these projections, consumers would continue to spend freely, and companies would invest heavily in new technologies. Government economic policies, favorable credit conditions, and high productivity among U.S. businesses would also support this growth. The IMF sees limited direct impacts on the U.S. from the energy crisis resulting from the war with Iran, explaining that, as a net energy exporter, the country exports more energy than it imports.

The Artificial Energy Crisis Is Hitting Poorer countries hard

While the relatively affluent United States, according to the IMF, is experiencing only limited consequences from the homegrown energy crisis, poor countries in particular—as well as those that rely on energy from abroad—are struggling with the situation. After all, they have to pay much more for oil, gas, and food, while their own currencies are losing value, the IMF explains. As a result, people automatically have less money to live on, which exacerbates poverty and leads to more and more people being unable to feed themselves adequately.
