In total, Audi sold exactly 314,905 vehicles from July through the end of September, according to a recent announcement from the Ingolstadt-based (Germany) company. This represents a 19.7 percent decline compared to the same period last year. This accelerates the downward trend that the Volkswagen subsidiary has been experiencing for some time. In the second quarter, the decline had been around eight percent. For the first nine months of the year, Audi has currently delivered 1.04 million vehicles. That is 11.4 percent fewer than a year ago. At least sales in Germany and Europe are up slightly for the first nine months.

Audi Is Performing Worse in China and the U.S.

The VW subsidiary, like all German automakers, is suffering from fierce competition and a sluggish market in China. In addition, U.S. tariffs are hitting Audi particularly hard because the automaker—unlike BMW, for example—does not have its own production facilities in the U.S. And in China, Audi sold nearly a quarter fewer cars in the first nine months than in 2025. In the U.S., the Ingolstadt-based company saw its sales drop by about one-sixth. According to Audi, the decline is exacerbated by model changes for its two volume models, the A1 and Q2. Just how pronounced Audi’s downward trend—which has been ongoing for several years—is becomes clear when comparing it to older figures. As recently as the third quarter of 2023, nearly 480,000 cars from the core brand were delivered—roughly half as many again as today.
