The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) and the associated computational intensity pose enormous physical challenges for data center operators. They must manage significantly more energy within limited space without compromising on security, efficiency, or scalability. To meet the rapidly growing power demands of future “AI factories,” the Harting Technology Group has now joined the Nvidia MGX ecosystem as a provider of high-performance connectivity solutions.

Wire Harnesses for Up to 800 VDC

Specifically, the Espelkamp-based connector technology specialist supplies so-called Power Whip solutions for the Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 platform. These robust cable assemblies ensure reliable power distribution from the building infrastructure to the individual racks. Technologically, Harting supports two generations of Nvidia’s power architecture:

  • A 100A/480VAC Power Whip is used for the 3RU 110kW Power Shelf.
  • In addition, the company is supporting the upcoming technology transition in the data center to 800 VDC with a next-generation DC-DC cable assembly (157 A/800 VDC), which connects the power infrastructure directly to the computer rack.

Harting Celebrates 40 Years in the U.S.

In line with its growing involvement in U.S.-driven AI infrastructures, Harting is currently celebrating the 40th anniversary of its North American subsidiary. Founded in 1986 with just two employees as a pure sales operation, Harting Inc. of North America has evolved into a key pillar of the technology group.

For Dietmar Harting, expanding across the Atlantic—given the challenging market conditions at the time—was “the final piece in the puzzle toward a global presence.” Today, the regional research and development teams on the ground work closely with customers to design the next generation of connection technology for growth markets such as AI data centers and humanoid robotics.

Harting USA by the Numbers:

  • Headquarters: Elgin, Illinois (including in-house component manufacturing and a local logistics center)

  • Area of Responsibility: the United States, Canada, and Mexico

  • Employees: 291

  • Revenue: 170 million euros (190 million U.S. dollars) in the past fiscal year

  • Key Industries: Data centers, the semiconductor industry, robotics, mechanical engineering, and energy

Power Distribution Rethought from the Ground Up

Philip Harting, Chairman of the Board and CEO of the technology group, sees this transformation as an ideal opportunity to apply the company’s existing expertise. The company is contributing decades of experience in high-current applications—such as those in rail technology or the automotive industry—to the MGX ecosystem in order to make the infrastructure for the next generation of AI technologically feasible in the first place.

Christian Gysin, CTO at Harting, also emphasizes the need to completely rethink power distribution in light of ever-increasing rack densities. He notes that the transition from 480 VAC to 800 VDC is an essential step for the industry. The connection solutions used must offer maximum reliability at these significantly higher power levels.

The Power Whip solutions for the Vera Rubin NVL72 platform will be showcased to a broad audience of industry professionals for the first time at the OCP Global Summit 2026 at Harting’s booth and on the partner wall of the NVIDIA AI Factory MGX Ecosystem.
