EREV-SUV Xiaomi's first range-extender SUVs—at low prices

With its new Sky Nomad series, starting at 27,000 euros (31.050 US-Dollar), Xiaomi is taking on established manufacturers such as Li Auto and Huawei. The company received 10,000 orders in four minutes—despite declining demand for range extenders in China.

Xiaomi is now also building electric cars with internal combustion engines serving as power generators—so-called range extenders (Extended-range EV, EREV). The electronics company launched four SUVs featuring this powertrain on September 7. This marks the manufacturer’s first foray into a vehicle segment that still relies on gasoline. All four models feature a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. It powers a generator that charges the battery. Until now, Xiaomi had only two battery-electric models in its lineup: the sedan SU7 and the SUV YU7.
