Ubtech has opened a factory in Liuzhou with an annual production capacity of more than 10,000 humanoid robots. Robots even handle some of the logistics there. However, there is still a wide gap between production capacity and actual sales figures.

On September 12, 2026, robot manufacturer Ubtech began operations at its new humanoid robot factory in Liuzhou, southern China. The 14,000-square-meter facility is designed to have an annual production capacity of more than 10,000 robots. According to the company, once operations are fully underway, a finished system is expected to roll off the assembly line every ten minutes. Among the products manufactured there are the bipedal models of the Walker S series, as well as the wheeled robots Cruzr S2 and Cruzr Y1.

Production Is Still Far Below Its Potential

However, capacity should not be equated with sales. Throughout 2025, Ubtech sold 1,079 full-size humanoid robots. In the first half of 2026, sales had already reached 921 units. Revenue from these robots and related services rose by 1,445 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 590.3 million yuan (88.2 million US dollars). As a result, this business segment contributed 46.5 percent to consolidated revenue for the first time.

The new factory thus also illustrates where the competition in humanoid robots is shifting. While manufacturers long focused primarily on demonstrating individual prototypes and pilot projects, several vendors are now building production capacity for larger volumes. At Ubtech, mass production of the Walker S2 began as early as 2025. By the end of the year, the company reported an annualized production capacity of more than 6,000 full-sized humanoid robots.

Strong Growth, but Still Posting Losses

The rapid increase in revenue does not yet mean that the business is already self-sustaining. Ubtech generated total revenue of approximately 1.27 billion yuan (189.9 million US dollars) in the first half of the year but remained in the red. The loss amounted to 338.8 million yuan (50.7 million US dollars). At the same time, the manufacturer invested 303.1 million yuan  (45.3 million US dollars) in research and development.

The order book also suggests that Ubtech aims to move beyond purely demonstration projects. The company reported orders for humanoid robots worth more than 1.4 billion yuan (209.3 million US dollars) for 2025. However, this figure does not represent revenue already recognized or robots already delivered.

Industrial customers are now also testing the systems outside of China. Airbus purchased a Walker S2 in early 2026 and is working with Ubtech to explore potential applications in aircraft production. In Germany, Rossmann also received a Walker S2 in March. The retailer will be testing the robot throughout 2026 at its logistics center in Burgwedel (Germany). According to Ubtech, its German distribution partner, Terra Robotics, has now ordered several dozen full-size humanoids.

Thus, the factory in Liuzhou primarily provides one thing: the technical foundation for manufacturing significantly higher volumes. Whether Ubtech can actually utilize its capacity of more than 10,000 robots per year now depends less on the assembly line than on having enough applications and paying customers.
