This is what the ILT plans to do with the new Trumpf laser source

At Fraunhofer ILT, the new Trumpf beam source can be combined with a Moewe polygon scanner that achieves scanning speeds of up to one kilometer per second over a processing area of 700 × 900 millimeters. Additionally, a multi-beam system is available for experiments, which allows for various processing strategies using single beam or beam splitting (100 or even up to 900 parallelized sub-beams) over a processing area of 400 × 400 millimeters. As a fourth option, the ILT team has access to beam shaping with Spatial Light Modulators (SLM). This approach is currently still under development, but it could provide even higher processing efficiency in the future by transforming the beam into nearly arbitrarily designed optical stamps, particularly in combination with high-performance UKP lasers. Practical issues such as heat input to the component or potential contamination resulting from increased material removal also need to be addressed. It is also questionable to what extent the combination of high removal and repetition rates might locally lead to unwanted shielding of the laser radiation or whether interactions between the removed material and the surrounding sub-beams might occur during multi-beam processing. Additional questions concern the lifespan and contamination of optical elements in the process chamber and radiation protection.
