Mercedes-Benz has started mass production of its new electric axial-flux motor at the Berlin-Marienfelde plant. The e-machine is being manufactured on approximately 30,000 square meters of production space across three halls and seven production lines. The motor's construction required several new process ideas. The production involves 98 process steps, 65 of which are being used by Mercedes-Benz for the first time, and 35 processes are new worldwide. Over 30 patent applications resulted from the development of the production. One example is the manufacturing of copper coils.
