Non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) are considered a central component of the future 6G infrastructure. They can be used to ensure global network connectivity. However, this requires satellite and terrestrial systems to be synchronized securely and in accordance with 3GPP standards. At the Mobile World Congress 2026, Keysight Technologies and satellite operator Sateliot were selected as winners of the Innovation Challenge of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the GSMA Foundry for their approach to solving this problem.

AI and Blockchain for Seamless Monitoring

The award-winning project entitled "Blockchain-enabled Anomaly Detection End-to-End Solution for 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks" specifically addresses reliability in space. The platform developed combines technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning methods together with digital calibration certificates.

The technology mix enables complete traceability of the calibration data. This starts with the production of the satellite and extends to regular network operation. The aim of the system design is to significantly increase the autonomy of the satellites. AI-supported evaluation enables performance problems and anomalies across hybrid (space and ground) segments to be detected and rectified in real time, maximizing overall network availability.

Preparation for Commercial NTN services

Telecommunications companies and network operators must ensure device trustworthiness and network integrity is the basic prerequisite for being able to scale NTN services commercially. The project, which is being funded as part of the ESA initiative "Space for 5G/6G and Sustainable Connectivity", aims to accelerate precisely this rollout.

"With a platform that increases confidence in network performance and improves resilience, Keysight and Sateliot are addressing a key need for future 5G and 6G networks," emphasized Antonio Franchi, head of the corresponding ESA program.

On the technological side, the company also believes it is well equipped for the hybrid networks of the future. Eric Taylor, Vice President Aerospace, Defense and Government Solutions at Keysight, explained: "Our collaboration with Sateliot demonstrates how advanced test and measurement solutions paired with AI-powered analytics create transparency in hybrid space-ground networks. With these verification capabilities, we support operators in the global rollout of robust, standards-based NTN services." (heh)
