The strategic alliance between the two companies will initially focus on laying the groundwork for series production and advancing manufacturing excellence, with a particular emphasis on further improving productivity, quality, and costs. In the future, it will also support the expansion of Joby's production capacities to advance aircraft certification and meet the expected growing demand for electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL).

From the Road to the Air

"Since our founding, we have been guided by the philosophy of enabling mobility for all. Over time, we have continuously expanded the concept of mobility. We see air mobility as a natural extension of this philosophy – from the ground to the sky—and as a way to create new value for people's lives and for society," explains Akio Toyoda, Chairman of the Board of Toyota Motor Corporation, adding: "It is of great importance to us to tackle this challenge together with Joby, a partner who shares the same vision. We are convinced that this strengthened partnership is an important step towards realizing the mobility society of the future."

The future joint venture, in which Toyota holds 51 percent and Joby 49 percent, will be headquartered in California and led by Yosuke Tsuruta.
