The Munich-based space start-up Isar Aerospace has reportedly raised an additional 270 million euros (approximately US$313 million) in investor funds for the development of its Spectrum rocket. The young company plans to use the money to prepare for the anticipated mass production of up to 40 rockets per year. Additionally, the construction of a second rocket launch site in Canada is now being planned. Among the new investors are venture capital firms Island Green Capital from the U.S. and Molten Ventures from the U.K. So far, however, the Spectrum rocket has only made a test flight in the spring of 2025. The second launch from the Norwegian Andøya Spaceport has also been delayed multiple times—not necessarily due to technical reasons. Nevertheless, Isar Aerospace is fully booked, according to company CEO Daniel Metzler. The rocket is designed to carry up to one ton of payload into low Earth orbits—typically satellites that orbit a few hundred kilometers above the Earth's surface. Currently, most European satellites are still being launched into space by Elon Musk's company Spacex. The Spectrum aims to change that in the future.
