Already, 75 companies from the electrical and digital industries have committed to integrating the AAS into their technologies and products within the next twelve months. The initiators are calling on other companies from various industries to join the initiative and sign this declaration of intent.

Why Does the Asset Administration Shell Play an Important Role?

"The Asset Administration Shell is a crucial foundation for the further digitalization of the industry," emphasizes ZVEI President Dr. Gunther Kegel. "It creates a common, global data language for all systems and assets. Only with such a technical basis can we further develop industrial data ecosystems where information flows interoperably. Thus, the AAS is also a central lever for industrial AI to unleash its great potential."

"The IDTA is committed to providing broad access to the AAS for various target groups," explains Christian Mosch, Managing Director of the IDTA. "Companies are already successfully using the AAS, and the existing use cases demonstrate that consistently standardized data exchange processes lead to faster decisions, higher efficiency, and reduced failure risks across the entire product lifecycle. With the declaration of intent, we are bringing additional partners on board to jointly create a resilient value chain."

How Do Companies Benefit from the Asset Administration Shell?

  • Worldwide, interoperable data exchange:
The AAS creates a unified, human- and machine-readable data language, enabling systems, machines, and partners worldwide to exchange data automatically and seamlessly. Companies reduce integration efforts and can more easily network supply chains and heterogeneous machinery. The AAS is internationally standardized as IEC 63278—a key for global scaling and collaboration.
  • Standardized Digital Twin:
The AAS forms the basis for a standardized digital twin of assets. It represents all relevant information in clearly defined submodels—from master data and technical parameters to operational states. This structure makes planning, maintenance, and production processes transparent and automatable. The AAS integrates seamlessly into existing tools and enables scenarios such as "Plug-and-Produce."
  • Comprehensive data sovereignty:
With the AAS, companies retain full control over their data. It allows for individual access and usage rights, ensuring that sensitive information remains protected while still creating transparency for partners and customers. This enables the combination of data security, IP protection, and openness.
  • Resilience in the global innovation race:
The AAS is a European development with global significance. Companies that adopt the AAS early benefit from best practices and can future-proof and flexibly digitalize their production using the AAS as an interface. European sovereignty over the technology and high security standards provide a tangible competitive advantage in an environment of international uncertainty.
