Clamping systems, gripping systems, and inductive coupling systems designed to optimize setup times in metalworking will be the focus when SMW-Autoblok and SMW-electronics exhibit at AMB, the international metalworking trade show, in Stuttgart (Germany) from September 15 to 19, 2026. With its innovations, SMW appeals to both large companies with fully automated series production and SMEs that are realigning their manufacturing operations in response to a shortage of skilled workers and competitive pressures.

Rotary Machining: Power Chucks for Automatic Jaw Change

The highlight in the chuck category is the KNCS-matic-2G. The latest version of this power chuck for rotary applications has been further optimized for use with robots. The automatic quick-change of jaws by an industrial robot is now accomplished via a simplified release mechanism. This further reduces setup time. The KNCS-matic-2G can be adapted to specific machining requirements with a wide range of accessories, including the e-sensing digital workpiece stop.

Stationary Clamping Systems: Hydraulics Meets Digitalization

SMW also offers the right entry point into automation for a variety of business needs with its stationary clamping systems. The SLX digit long-stroke clamping system and its power-clamping version, the SLX digit 230 compact, will be on display at the booth. They combine conventional hydraulics with digital functions. Thanks to an integrated position-measuring system, their opening stroke can be continuously adjusted to fit any component. Their quick-change jaw system can also be automated using a robot. For manufacturing processes with a higher degree of automation, the mechatronic variants SLX e-motion 520 and SLX e-motion 335 compact will be on display in Stuttgart (Germany). With these models, not only the jaw position but also the clamping force is infinitely adjustable. Integrated into a machine control system via Profinet or EtherNet/IP, they can run entire production shifts unmanned.

Inductive Coupling Systems for Real-Time Communication

At AMB, industry professionals will also have the opportunity to experience SMW’s latest generation of inductive coupling systems firsthand: The C80 Giga enables contactless, real-time communication between actuators and sensors and the higher-level control system. It transmits signals wirelessly at a speed of either 100 Mbit/s via Fast Ethernet or 1 Gbit/s via Gigabit Ethernet (fully transparent) across an air gap of up to 3 millimeters (0,1181 in). Information is transmitted without delay and thus with significantly greater precision, which increases process reliability and productivity. At the same time, the C80 Giga provides a power supply of up to 75 W at 24 V. SMW designed the C80 Giga for the automation of rotary and alternating applications. With its high data rates, the system is also suitable for complex camera applications.
