From Hearing Aids to Earbuds to Smart Glasses

Neurobiologist Farah Corona-Strauss and her lab are already working on a tangible technical application. She says, “Hearing aids, earbuds, and the temples of smart glasses sit right where the signals from the ear muscles originate. This makes the ear a natural interface between humans and machines. That’s why the team is already collaborating with hearing aid manufacturers and international technology partners. The goal is to develop an empathetic AI system that recognizes when listening becomes tiring or when something moves us. It can respond to this without a camera or a questionnaire.”
