Installation contactors are often considered relics of bygone days in modern automation. However, in practical use, they remain a central, often indispensable component.
Historically, installation contactors trace back to the development of classical power contactors during the early phase of electrification in the 20th century. With the growing proliferation of electric drives, there initially arose a need to safely switch high currents in industrial applications, such as electric motors. This task was undertaken by power contactors, which are designed for high switching capacities and demanding industrial operating conditions.
