China also wants to become the technology leader in the future industry of "flying cars". A separate authority has now been established to ensure that this succeeds.
China wants to extend its success with electric cars to the airspace above its cities in 2025. The young industry for "flying cars" and cargo drones is to be massively promoted this year. At the turn of the year, a new department specifically for the "low altitude economy" was established in the powerful central planning authority NDRC.
The announcement has been widely welcomed in China’s automotive and battery industries, as well as among startups developing eVTOLs (electrical vertical take-off and landing vehicles). The establishment of the new authority is seen as a signal that Beijing aims to promote this transport sector as a key economic growth driver in the new year.
