Battery X Metals has, as recently announced, restored the range of a previously inoperable light electric vehicle during real-world driving. After deploying its patented rebalancing platform consisting of hardware and software for second-generation lithium-ion batteries, the experts from Vancouver highlighted that an average range of 84.4 miles per charge was achieved following the rebalancing. The preliminary rebalancing test significantly reduced the voltage imbalance at the cell level within a highly degraded 144-cell lithium-ion battery pack.

A Defective Electric Truck Served As A Test Subject

As part of the ongoing performance validation program for the rebalancing device, the company previously conducted practical tests with a rebalanced electric truck to evaluate the range and battery efficiency after rebalancing. The electric truck, incidentally, was provided by its independent owner. According to the owner and observed by the company, it had previously shown a significantly reduced range of about 0.06 miles (approximately 328 feet) per full charge before becoming practically inoperable due to a substantial natural imbalance in its lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt-oxide (NMC) battery cells caused by real-world conditions.

A Battery Pack Comes Back into Balance

Following the rebalancing, an alignment of approximately 0.27 volts between the highest and lowest cell was achieved (compared to a difference of about 0.63 volts before rebalancing), as reported. This result represents a significant restoration effect of balance at the pack level and supports the improved effective utilization of the battery pack's available capacity—without the need to replace cells. This means that Battery X Metals' process, from both a technical and economic perspective, provides an effective solution for significantly extending the lifespan of lithium-ion batteries used in e-mobility. This would also reduce the overall operating costs of entire vehicle fleets.
