An endurance test in northern China shows: sodium batteries are also suitable for heavy trucks. Even at minus 40 degrees (-40°F), the battery retains over 90 percent of its capacity—completely without expensive lithium.
Minus 40 degrees Celsius (-40°F) is the natural enemy of any drive battery. In this cold, range shrinks, charging becomes agonizingly slow, and a heavily loaded truck may simply come to a halt.
