The focus of Autodesk University is primarily on three innovations: generative AI-supported editable BREP geometry in Fusion, an agent-based Autodesk Assistant, and an expanded collaboration with Microsoft for contextual visualization and seamless export to Microsoft 365.

At Autodesk University, the annual "Design and Make" conference currently taking place in Nashville, the company is once again showcasing its innovations and advancements. This year, the focus is on AI features that aim to redefine the entire product development process.
Generative AI-Supported, Editable Geometry in Fusion
Autodesk is implementing a new form of generative modeling in Fusion: editable Boundary Representation (BREP) geometry, powered by proprietary base models for manufacturing. A single command generates highly detailed geometries, which are output as fully editable CAD models. This significantly shortens the path from concept to production-ready file, as designers can continue working directly without cumbersome conversions or manual rework, parametrically adjust designs, and take manufacturing aspects into account.
Autodesk Assistant: An Agent-Based AI Partner for Productivity
With the new Autodesk Assistant, Autodesk introduces a context-sensitive, agent-based AI partner seamlessly integrated into products like Fusion and Vault. In Fusion, the Assistant automates organizational and technical tasks: inviting team members, setting sketch constraints, or generating manufacturing paths. Time-consuming tasks are outsourced, allowing users to focus on developing innovations. In Vault, the Assistant enhances data management, including natural language searches, automatic follow-up actions like updating outdated drawings, and transferring bills of materials (BOM) into PLM workflows (Fusion Manage). The result is a consistent, reliable data flow throughout the entire product lifecycle.

Contextualized Visuals And Direct Export to Microsoft 365
Autodesk and Microsoft are jointly advancing the visual presentation and distribution of design outcomes. By utilizing Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Services and models like GPTimage1, Fusion designs can be directly contextualized and photorealistically visualized. This allows users to automatically place a newly developed device into a realistic environment. These visuals and metadata can then be automatically exported to Microsoft 365 and integrated into PowerPoint presentations, enabling marketing and sales teams to receive high-quality materials without manual effort.
Production-Ready MCP Servers for Seamless Automation
Autodesk is empowering the entire Design & Manufacturing industry with production-ready implementations of Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. These servers (including Fusion Data) no longer deliver isolated CAD files but provide complete, verified work views with all relevant details such as approval status, dimensions, material information, and manufacturing constraints. These work snapshots can be unambiguously interpreted and processed by AI agents and automation tools. For product development and manufacturing, this means that routine tests for manufacturability can be automated, CAM workflows can be initiated directly from the validated model context, and NC programs can be generated with significantly greater precision. Simulations can also be automatically launched with the correct input data, and results can be fed back into the development process. Changes to bills of materials are transparently mapped across supply chains.
