With the new umbrella brand Cosmic, a heavyweight emerges in the international semiconductor testing market. The group combines specialized companies from Europe and the USA and offers comprehensive solutions for mixed-signal and power semiconductors from a single source.

The international semiconductor market is on the move, not only in manufacturing but increasingly in the critical phases of quality assurance and testing. A milestone in this consolidation process is now marked by the introduction of the new global brand Cosmic. Behind this name lies a strategic growth process that began in 2022 with Xenon Private Equity's investment in the company Microtest. Through a targeted acquisition strategy, a new heavyweight in the industry has been created in a short period, bringing decades of experience under one common roof.

More than 400 Employees at 15 Locations Worldwide

The expansion of the group reads like a who's who of specialized European and US-based testing experts. The foundation was laid by acquisitions such as Test Inspire in the Netherlands and Gedec in Italy. A notable highlight was the integration of RoodMicrotec, a company with a deeply rooted presence, particularly in the European market.

In 2024, this expansion course was consistently continued: with the integration of ipTEST in the United Kingdom, a specialist in power semiconductor testing, and Focused Test in the United States, the technological legacy of the individual organizations was transferred into a global structure. Today, Cosmic employs more than 400 people at 15 locations in Europe, the USA, and Asia, combining international strength with the necessary proximity to local markets.

Two Independent and Complementary Business Areas

To meet the complex demands of the semiconductor industry, Cosmic has divided its operational activities into two independent yet complementary business units. The Cosmic Equipment division represents the technological core for hardware development. The focus here is on the design and manufacturing of advanced Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) systems. The platforms are specifically tailored to the needs of mixed-signal and power semiconductors and also include handlers and burn-in systems. This division addresses the increasing demands in the automotive and industrial markets, where low- and high-power solutions as well as high-reliability applications are particularly emphasized.

In parallel, the Cosmic Services business unit offers a comprehensive portfolio of testing services that supports customers throughout the entire lifecycle of their components. This begins as early as the development phase with ASIC design and Design-for-Testability (DFT) support to optimize test coverage and later time-to-market. The range of services further extends to wafer sort and end-of-line testing, as well as characterization and qualification tests.

A key aspect of quality assurance is the offered fault and technology analyses. Through the use of sophisticated analysis techniques, the root causes of errors can be precisely identified, which in turn supports the continuous improvement of manufacturing processes along the entire value chain.

Specialized and Integrated Test Solutions

According to Ruud van der Linden, CEO of the Cosmic Group, the introduction of the new brand represents a key strategic step to solidify the position as a leading international provider. The integration of technological and operational expertise aims to offer customers a "value proposition that combines innovation and efficiency." Despite the global structure and unified company name, the various business units will continue to operate with clear autonomy and specific focuses in their respective markets. For the electronics industry, the launch of Cosmic means access to specialized, integrated testing solutions from a single source.
