With the help of industrial multi-laser 3D printing systems for metal parts and a manufacturing platform controlled by artificial intelligence, Unionfab from China, a subsidiary of Uniontech, can shorten the production cycles for selected metal parts in small batches from over 30 days to as little as five days. In view of the increasing demand for lightweight constructions, complex geometries and faster product iterations, additive manufacturing with metal is gradually developing from high-quality prototyping into an important process for industrial small-batch production, according to the Shanghai-based company. At the same time, sophisticated multi-laser printing systems, process optimization through AI and the supply chains for metal powder are helping to significantly improve the productivity and cost structure of 3D printing with metals. The parent company Uniontech builds 3D printers and has over 100 of them in use. It explains that these include some that work with four and even six lasers in order to be particularly productive.

With Over 1,000 3D Printers And More than 400 CNC Machines

And through proprietary AI technology for process pre-compensation, Unionfab has achieved high-speed printing with a layer thickness of 0.02 inches, which improves production efficiency and reduces manufacturing costs, while the parts become very dense and have a consistent surface quality. Unionfab can also process various materials in industrial quality. These include stainless steel (316L, 17-4PH), aluminum (AlSi10Mg, Al6061, Al901X), titanium (TC4), CuCrZr and Inconel (625, 718) et cetera. The high-strength aluminum alloy Al901X in aerospace quality, which was developed in-house, combines heat resistance and structural strength. It can also be anodized, which supports the small-batch production of end-use parts made from aluminium alloys using metal 3D printing. With over 1,000 industrial 3D printers and over 400 CNC machines in-house, Unionfab can offer comprehensive manufacturing services. By integrating 3D printing, CNC machining, injection molding of plastics, sheet metal processing and rapid casting, the platform supports hardware developers from initial prototyping to series production.
