Tesla also views tariffs with mixed feelings

The electric car manufacturer Tesla, led by Trump confidant Elon Musk, warns the U.S. government about possible negative consequences of American punitive tariffs for the company, as reported by the dpa. For example, due to earlier additional tariffs, Tesla's production costs in the U.S. have partially increased, as recalled there. Additionally, the vehicles have become more expensive abroad, which naturally weakened their competitive position in the market. Tesla also pointed out that U.S. companies are relatively quickly hit by countermeasures from other countries during trade wars. The additional tariffs imposed by Trump have already, among other things, triggered counter-reactions from Canada and the European Union.

The USA also has to import raw materials!

Tesla also pointed out that some components and raw materials must necessarily be sourced from abroad even in U.S. vehicle production. Sanctions should therefore not conflict with the goal of expanding and supporting domestic production. Moreover, Tesla also operates plants in China and in Germany near Berlin (Grünheide). However, the letter from within Tesla's decision-makers, from which these comments were taken, bears no signature. Obviously, the author or authors fear that it could cost their job if they are identified.

Trump was supported with many millions of dollars by Elon Musk during the election campaign. Musk was then tasked with reducing government costs. Rapid cuts in expenses and jobs at agencies quickly brought the Tesla chief under criticism. At the same time, Tesla's stock price fell because analysts lowered their sales forecasts for the company. Trump then demonstratively bought a Tesla vehicle during a sales show in front of the White House this week.
