Composite materials and floor coverings made from "orange oil" epoxy.

SKZ has brought its expertise in processing the developed bio-based resin for the production of natural fiber reinforced composites. Limonene epoxide and limonene dioxide as formulation components have a huge potential for various applications - including floor coverings and fiber composite plastics. To experience the practical applications of these epoxy resin systems, a demonstrator was developed. The results of the research project mark a significant advance in the development of sustainable epoxy resin systems. The use of terpenes from orange peels as raw material allows not only the replacement of fossil raw materials, but can also contribute to the development of environmentally friendly materials for various industrial applications.

Bio-based epoxy resin system is attractive for many industries.

With the project results, SMEs are provided with a resin-hardener mixture from almost 100 percent renewable raw materials, the project partners emphasize. An epoxy resin system from renewable raw materials is aimed not least at a wide range of market sectors - including rail vehicle construction, sports equipment manufacturing, automotive industry, architecture, shipbuilding and the interior design sector. The project thus makes an important contribution to the development of new production possibilities and new materials for the processing industry, to help meet both economic requirements and climate and environmental protection requirements.
