Frost and condensation disrupt the operation of vehicle sensors. Denso and Finnish company Canatu are collaborating to develop wafer-thin films made from carbon nanotubes (CNT) to keep sensors and cameras free from moisture.

The companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together on this technology, which aims to solve a critical issue for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Currently, frost and condensation hinder the reliable operation of vehicle cameras and sensors, Denso reports.

The ultra-thin, transparent films are made of carbon nanotubes—a material that is both lightweight and extremely strong, with high electrical and thermal conductivity. The companies also plan to explore additional applications for this innovative product in vehicles.
