Pista & Piloti is actually a motorsports event for historic Italian sports and race cars, as well as classic and modern classic cars. This year, there was a special highlight that didn’t have any wheels: a helicopter modeled after the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.

Pista & Piloti features primarily historic Italian sports and race cars. The focus is particularly on the Alfa Romeo brand, but contemporary rival brands are also represented on the starting grid. The most recent event, held on August 29 and 30, 2026—as usual at the Triwo test site in Pferdsfeld, Germany (Hunsrück, Rhineland-Palatinate)—featured a special highlight. Namely, an Alfa Romeo-themed helicopter, piloted by Paul Ressle, founder of the company Evocopter. The entrepreneur from Schongau, Bavaria (Germany), has been a fan of Alfa Romeo since childhood. In addition to classic cars from the iconic Italian brand, his fleet also includes a current Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. And, most recently, a helicopter in the Quadrifoglio design. Ressle designed his new prototype of the ClassiX ultralight helicopter in the unmistakable style of the four-leaf clover.

Much like the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, the newly developed UL helicopter from Schongau also features numerous carbon-fiber components. Ressle had the fuselage painted in Rosso Alfa—just like his Giulia. Cloverleaf logos and historic Alfa Romeo lettering complete the helicopter’s unique look.

With a Certified Aircraft Engine

The ClassiX, newly developed by Evocopter, is an ultralight helicopter. To stay within the 600-kilogram weight limit—including the pilot and any passenger—the company manufactures the fuselage, cabin, and rotor blades, among other components, from lightweight and sturdy carbon fiber. A tubular frame made of chromium-molybdenum steel serves as the structural framework.

According to the manufacturer, the ClassiX’s propulsion system—a unique selling point—sets this model apart from conventional UL helicopters. Instead of a modified car engine, Evocopter uses a certified aircraft engine with a displacement of approximately 6 liters, 160 PS, and 500 Nm of torque. Furthermore, similar to Formula 1 race cars, the fuel tanks are designed as crash-resistant rubber bladders filled with foam.

Technologies from the World of Racing

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is powered by a 2.9-liter V6 gasoline engine with two turbochargers that produces 382 kW (520 PS). Power is transmitted to the rear axle via an eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF, which can also be operated manually using aluminum paddle shifters on the steering wheel. When the special “Race” mode is activated in the Alfa DNA Pro electronic driving dynamics control system, the transmission shifts gears within 150 milliseconds.

The standard equipment is largely based on technologies that Alfa Romeo has developed in motorsports. These include the Alfa DNA Pro dynamic driving control system, the Alfa Q2 mechanical limited-slip differential, the Alfa Active Suspension adaptive suspension system, and the active Alfa Active Aero Splitter front spoiler lip made of carbon fiber. Optimal deceleration is ensured by the high-performance Brembo braking system and the Integrated Braking System (IBS), which links the driving dynamics control system and the anti-lock braking system. The connection between the brake pedal and the braking system is electronic via brake-by-wire.

Like the “Quadrifoglio Helicopter,” the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio also relies on carbon fiber to reduce weight. Numerous body and technical components are made from this high-tech material. These include the roof, the hood, the front and rear spoilers, and the driveshaft. In addition, the doors and front fenders are made of aluminum. A high-quality interior rounds out the unique driving experience of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. Optional features include sports seats with carbon-fiber backrests.
